How long will my blade take?
About 30 days from deposit to dispatch. Sets, long blades and new designs can take longer and we say so when we confirm your order. Transit adds five to fifteen days depending on your country. We send photographs of your finished blade before the balance is due.
Why a deposit and not full payment?
Every blade is forged after you order it. The 50% deposit pays for the materials and puts your blade in the order book; the balance is only due when the piece exists and you have seen it. It is how a commission has always worked, and it keeps us honest.
Can I change the length, shape or handle?
Yes. Each blade in the collection is a pattern, not a fixed object. Choose the handle and fittings on the product page, and state a preferred length in the notes or over WhatsApp. For anything further, commission it; we quote within two working days.
What steel is it, really?
Japanese spring steel, forged from original-equipment leaf springs of vehicles such as the Toyota Corolla and Isuzu Elf. It is a carbon steel: it takes a keener edge than stainless and will rust if neglected. See the craft and care.
Will it come sharp?
Yes. Sharpening and finishing is what the shop is known for; every blade leaves able to slice paper. We also offer resharpening for life at the cost of shipping.
Is it legal to import a blade into my country?
Usually, for kitchen and utility knives; often with conditions for long blades and some patterns such as the kukri. Rules differ by country and change. You are responsible for checking before you order, and we will not ship to a destination where we know the item is prohibited. See shipping & customs.
How is it shipped?
Insured, tracked courier in a wooden box, blade oiled and sheathed. Duties and taxes at your border are yours to pay. We declare contents and value truthfully.
What if it arrives damaged?
Photograph the box and the blade and write to us within 14 days. We repair or replace at our cost. See returns & repairs.
Can I return a made-to-order blade?
A commissioned blade is made for you, so the deposit is not refundable once forging has begun. If there is a defect in materials or workmanship we put it right. Details in returns.
Do you make sets, or multiples for a restaurant?
Yes. Sets are forged together so the horn and the steel match. For restaurant orders of six or more, write to us; lead times and pricing are quoted per order.
How do I pay?
Deposits are taken through Stripe: Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Apple Pay and Google Pay, in US dollars. Balances are invoiced by secure link. For the Philippines we can also arrange local transfer; ask us.
Can I visit the forge?
By appointment. The forge in Sikatuna is a working one, and it is a joy to see. Write to us first.
